I have started a project for Earth Day! I am making twirl skirts out of old jeans and remnant fabrics I have. My neices had jeans that still fit in waist, but the knees were full of holes. My sister-in-law was going to just toss them, I told her to send them my way and I'd make the girls some skirt for spring out of them, now I'm making more for my friends girls and even my own little girl!

But I love this idea for Seed Packets. My daughter will love putting them together! I have just blogged about this project - http://sweetwordsboutique.blogspot.com/2009/04/earth-day-green-share.html

Thanks for the great project idea!!

Just blogged about doing this project - http://tamdoll.blogspot.com/2009/04/earth-day-green-share.html - and linked back here. Had fun putting these packets together and should be fun delivering them to folks, too. Next year I hope to harvest more seeds from my own garden instead of buying them, but didn't have much luck sprouting seeds that I had saved from a couple of years ago... will try again when they're fresh!

This is such an awesome idea - I'd never heard of seed bombs before, but on the daily walks with husky n hound my daughter and I could have plenty of fun "bombing" our community! Thank you very much for sharing the how-to.

My friends and I were already planning to make some seed "bombs" to toss into some of the empty space around our city that could use some green. I thought I might share our recipe over here just in case someone might want to do a bit of guerrilla gardening of their own!

    * Combine 2 parts mixed seeds (wildflowers, drought-resistant flowers or greenery, herbs...) with 3 parts compost.
    * Stir in 5 parts powdered clay.
    * Add a little water until the mix is damp enough to mold into balls.
    * Pinch off a gumball-sized bit of the clay mixture and roll it between the palms of your hands until it forms a tight ball .
    * Set the balls on newspaper and allow to dry for 24 - 48 hours. Store in a cool, dry place until ready to use.

Fill your pockets and on your next walk, toss them into vacant lots, the space between the sidewalk and the road, highway medians... wherever could use some happiness!

Happy bombing!
